The line was first introduced on June 8, 2007 at the Computex Tapei 2007 and immediately created a buzz, due to the size and mobility of the laptop (7-inch screen) and the biggest shocker, the price. ASUS has the Eee PC going at about $199 USD which would make it one of the most affordable laptops on the market. The name Eee PC derives from the "three easy concepts" that ASUS aims to address with the Eee PC: E asy to learn, work, play; E xcellent internet experience and E xcellent mobile computing experience. Easy to learn, work and play The ASUS Eee PC is compatible with Windows XP to make it easy for those that already use that operating system but it will ship with a Linux distribution out of the box. On the default operating system, users will be able to choose from two modes: easy mode for beginners and full desktop mode for advanced users. Excellent internet experience The Eee PC has built-in WLAN connectivity for mobile internet access. Excellent mobile computing experience The small size of the ASUS Eee PC can be attributed to inclusion of a flash drive over a hard drive. The entire laptop weighs only 0.89 kg (approx. 2 pounds). The flash drive also gives the Eee PC a shock-proof advantage. ASUS has so far revealed two PCs in the Eee PC line: the 7" Eee PC 701 with demos seen in black as well as in white and also the 10" Eee PC 1001. ASUStek has not announced a release date yet but estimate that they will start shipping in July or August.
